Want to Collaborate?

I am always looking for new and interesting work experiences. I especially love project-based work where I get to expand my learning and learn about new things—and there is always something to be learned, no matter the job. I love projects that do good in the world and approach my work, whatever it might be, with passion and humility.

I’m curious about the world and seek to experience it through an array of perspectives. As such, my work history varies from a start-up utility person (production, shipping and receiving, customer service, etc) to bar tending, from university professor to freelancer. I have conducted research and provided analysis reports for tech start-ups, and I have been a data entry specialist for social work organizations. All of which have informed how I approach work in endless ways.

As a freelancer, I’ve enjoyed working with a wide range of talented individuals, companies, and organizations. I’ve had the privilege of copyediting educational programs for National Geographic (via my work with Educurious) and collaborating on publications for Fast Company, Ladders, and the African American Development Officers’ monthly newsletter. I’ve done just about every writing-related job you can imagine: teaching, instructional design (backward design, ADDIE, etc.), copywriting, copyediting, proofreading, content ideation, blog writing, ghost writing, content writing, research/analysis reports, profiles, writing tutor, etc. I’ve done these jobs in a number of fields: real estate, accounting, social media, education, learning, nonprofits, PR, travel, business, marketing, etc. This naturally comes with advantages and disadvantages, but I’m game for a challenge.

Passion is a word that gets thrown about a lot, and rightfully so. Passion is important in whatever we do. I want to work with people who care deeply about what they do, people who are not afraid to obsess, people who find purpose in their obsessions. I also want to work people who know how to have fun and not take life too seriously, people who recognize the silliness of this world, even when, perhaps most especially when, it is wrapped in chaos like it is now. I appreciate people who understand the value of empathy but aren’t afraid to draw a line. If that is you, drop me a line!

Specialties include: Creative Writing, Composition, Instructional Design, Teaching/Tutoring, Research, Copyediting, Proofreading, Copywriting, Content, and more.

Testimonials:

It is always a delight to work with Eddie Kim. He is a smart, skilled, and friendly editor who is excellent at both managing his own projects and working in a team on shared projects. As we are both editors, it might in theory be hard to avoid stepping on each other’s toes with shared projects, but in practice, I’ve found working with Eddie to be the opposite. He is conscientious and thorough in checking and updating style guides and sheets, and very reliable when it comes to making appropriate, concise edits while retaining the writer’s voice. I admit I am particularly “Type A” and like for things to be done my way, and Eddie has always been very respectful and accommodating when it comes to matching my preferred style on subjective issues (and I know I can trust him to do so correctly). His attention to detail is excellent. Bonus: he’s an outstanding poet, too!
— Kristina Hawley, Copyeditor at Educurious
Eddie is a valuable resource in providing his expertise, flexibility, and meeting deadlines for our projects. He assures that our units are grammatically correct and clearly worded, as well as confirming that our learning outcomes, lessons, activities, projects, and assessments all align accordingly. He is a pleasure to work with and builds great working relationships with team members. He is versatile and adapts well, whether he’s working on Educurious units or curricula for National Geographic. We are so appreciative of Eddie.
— Josie Brogan, Director of Human Resources and Operations at Educurious
Working with Eddie is an absolute pleasure. His ability to offer suggestions and take care of all grammatical mechanics while also preserving the author’s voice, tone, and intention is masterful. Writing, even if academic or professional, can be a deeply personal experience. Eddie understands this and brings an attention to detail and easygoing nature that makes the copyediting process a seamless one.
— April Walker, MSW, Chief Development Officer at Vocational Guidance Services
I’m a computer engineer and was deep in the midst of a job search, for which I was working with a prestigious career consultant. As part of the process, my consultant conducted interviews with past coworkers and managers. I hired Eddie to turn the interviews into recommendation letters.

He was amazing! His work transformed disjointed conversations into thoughtful, well-organized letters. Working with Eddie was a breeze. He was easy going and professional. I sent him the transcripts, told him what I needed, and he took care of the rest. He even finished the letters earlier than the time frame he quoted me! And I have since been promoted to Program Manager. I would definitely recommend working with Eddie for writing projects.
— Clay Caldovino, Program Manager at PACCAR
When I was in urgent need of a copyeditor, Eddie was able to jump right in and provide the work I needed done in an efficient and professional manner, within the budget I required. He turned my projects in early, caught my blind spots, and went the extra mile. I highly recommend his work.

I’m the Education Director at Pyramid Communications in Seattle. We’re a full-service communications firm that has given voice to good causes for more than 25 years. Last fall (2018), Pyramid was working with the Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP). Among other things, we were transferring resources, blog posts, and various other media from their old index of resources to a more efficient reorganization. There was a massive amount of resources with inconsistent titles that needed to be sorted and have blurbs created for them.

Eddie did a great job of jumping in and doing a LOT of work in a short period of time. He was adaptive, intuitive, and communicative. Eddie wasn’t afraid of asking questions when he needed information or clarity, was a team player, and always stayed organized. Adding the additional information he did for an assortment of resources turned the site from a list of inconsistent titles to an easy-to-search resource library that many people will use.
— Josh Daniel, Education Director at Pyramid Communications
Eddie was hired to complete a task that required a lot of attention to detail, since we were adding several hundred resources to a website, each of which had several attributes that needed to be organized and added correctly. Eddie did a fantastic job at managing this task. He was very good at letting us know how long the tasks would take, completed the tasks on time, informed us in advance about problems that arose, and suggested solutions to those problems. We were very happy with Eddie’s work, and would hire him again in a second!
